I was born and raised in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. The city’s architecture, diverse culture, and history of racial tensions has influenced my art. I consider my work “outsider art” because I had little formal art training.
What I want to convey is imagery that reflects my interpretation of the current young urban zeitgeist.
One of the things that makes my art special is that it combines many old school processes and techniques. I begin with black & white film photography printed in my darkroom. Then, using either single images or collages, I overpaint the photographs using a mixture of oil, acrylic, airbrush, spray paint, silk screen, or encaustic paint. I also incorporate painted text stenciling, repurposed images from magazines, the web or objects found.
